August 13, 2008 -- The Auxiliary to the IAFF (AIAFF) is giving thousands of dollars to IAFF charities this week. The largest donation by the auxiliary — $1,260.25 — went to the John P. Redmond Foundation, which conducts research and education regarding the occupational hazards and diseases associated with fire fighting.
Money for donations to IAFF charities and funds comes from donations made by the 1,050 members and 49 chapters of the Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary also donated $1,110.75 to the IAFF Burn
Foundation; $1,000 to MDA; $965.75 to the W. H. “Howie” McClennan Fund; and $500 to the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.
“The Auxiliary performs a crucial function, and its members are unbelievably gracious. The time they spend to support the IAFF and the money they donate to IAFF funds and charities provides welcome assistance,” IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger said.
The Auxiliary, chartered in 1950, will present the IAFF with a plaque of appreciation for its support.
Members of the Auxiliary elected officers yesterday at the 2008 Convention in Las Vegas. Joan Dubiel was elected president; Terra McKenzie was elected First Vice President; Meara Sabala was elected Second Vice President; and Beth Nichols was elected Secretary-Treasurer.
The Auxiliary also gave Kelli D. Tucker its Carolyn Reach Member of the Year Award. Tucker is a member of the Auxiliary to Austin, TX Local 975. Nancy Blumenberg was runner-up.
