August 14, 2008 -- The democratic process for the IAFF 2008 Convention concluded Thursday with the election of two District Vice Presidents and two Trustees. The IAFF Elections Committee reported on ballots cast in four contested elections for the positions of 2nd District Vice President, 15th District Vice President, Western Region Trustee and Canadian Trustee.
In the 2nd District Vice President election, 10,500 ballots were cast, with challenger Mark Woolbright of the Professional Fire Fighters of Eastern Missouri Local 2665 prevailing over incumbent Louie A. Wright of Greater Kansas City, MO Local 42, by a vote count of 5,329 to 5,171.
In the 15th District Vice President election, 1,166 ballots were cast, with James A. Fennell of Saint John, NB Local 771 prevailing over John Courtney of Moncton, NB Local 999 by a vote count of 946 to 220.
In the race for Western Region Trustee, 84,178 ballots were cast, with Tony Meija of Long Beach, CA Local 372 prevailing over Mike Fredricksen of Salt Lake City, UT Local 1645 by a vote count of 51,961 to 32,217.
In the race for Canadian Region Trustee, 19,099 ballots were cast, with challenger Alex Forrest of Winnipeg, MB Local 867 prevailing over incumbent Keith Hamilton of Toronto, ON Local 3888 by a vote count 12,359 to 6,740.
The newly elected 16 District Vice Presidents, three Trustees, IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger and General Secretary-Treasurer Vinnie Bollon were installed during Thursday’s Business Session. District Vice Presidents, Trustees, and the two IAFF principal officers will serve four-year terms.
